NoiseMakerThe TAL NoiseMaker has been a favorite of mine for creating retro electronic music for years now. It has plenty of great presets so you can get started fast and have something that sounds great. SyntronikSyntronik is really the premier vst instrument for creating retro electronic music. It comes with the emulations of 17 synthesizers from the 1970s and 80s. I have the paid Delux version of this, which comes with a lot more presets, but you can get started with the free version. Tyrell N6Another nifty plugin for getting that retro synth vibe. OB-XdI absolutely love this plugin, and use it all the time, especially for recreating that classic synthwave bass sound. TAL Chorus LXI absolutely love this plugin. It's a chorus effect that is meant the emulate the chorus that was built into the Juno 60 synthesizer. You can throw this on a number of instruments to get that 80s chorus sound.TAL ReverbThis is an excellent reverb plugin that I use on almost every track. TAL VocoderYet another free TAL plugin, but that's because they're great. This one is a vocoder effect. And who doesn't love a great vocoder?Klanghelm MJUCjrThis is a great compressor to use if you're wanted to get some of that vintage tube saturation sound. Klanghelm IVGI2This is another great saturation plugin that you can use to get some warmth. KrushThis is a fun distortion plugin that you can use to add drive, bit-crushing, and more!ProtoverbThis reverb plugin looks like something out of Fallout, and it's great for giving you that vintage reverb sound. It do! Based on multi-effects hardware units like those built by Alesis and Digitech, LFX-1310 provides 24 effects algorithms, any three of which can be slotted in at once. These algorithms include four reverbs; a trio each of filters and delays, peak and RMS compression, overdrive, two distortions, a crusher, vinyl noise and stereo imager, chorus, phaser, flanger, autowah, tremolo, and auto-pan. They might be run-of- the-mill processors when viewed individually, but in combination they spring to life.The three effects slots are arranged in series, enabling weird and wonderful combinations to be created, as perfectly demonstrated by the factory presets, which include plenty of engaging and inspiring sounds. It's a real shame they didn't do 8 voice versions for a Boutique Mark II range. I'd happily pay double for that. I have the System 8 but its missing that classic aesthetic.I didn't spend much time with the TAL demo, it sounded good but i wasn't blown away. The ArturiaV4 sounds like I always expected a J8 to sound with its drifty tone and fat oscillators. It's my favourite so far. I remade some of the Arturia presets on my System 8 and got 90% there, but the Roland feels too static now. IMO it has lost its crown as the definitive J8 emulation.That phasey chorus sound of VCO oscillators drifting can't be replicated on the Roland to my knowledge, and it's a big part of the original sound, isn't it?I wish the condition parameter was more like the Vintage knob on the P5.
