Synergy - Mouse and keyboard sharing
Last night I was able to set up a neat little program that I think you should all know about! Synergy allows you to set up two or more computers so that they all share one keyboard and one mouse. Even better it works cross platform (i.e. Windows and Linux can both share the same mouse and keyboard).SetupYou need to install synergy on all machines involved. I will only go over the Fedora instructions here. The first thing I did was do a quick yum search for synergy.yum search synergyThis spit back the following results:== Matched: synergy ==quicksynergy.x86_64 : Share keyboard and mouse between computerssynergy.x86_64 : Mouse and keyboard sharing utilitysynergy-plus.x86_64 : Mouse and keyboard sharing utilityAs you can see in the list above it appears as though the package synergy.x86_64 is the only one I really need so I went and installed it.sudo yum install synergyThis quickly finished but left me scratching my head. There was no application entry for synergy and not even a man page in the terminal. Looking back at the original search terms I figured synergy-plus must be additional features for the base synergy application and that maybe quicksynergy was some sort of automated or easier to use version of synergy. So I installed that.sudo yum install quicksynergyI then set up my synergy server, the computer that would be sharing it’s mouse and keyboard to the others, and defined where the monitors would go.As you can see I have set up my Fedora computer (XPS) to extend the monitor to the left of my Windows machineNext I jumped back over to my Fedora laptop and launched QuickSynergy. After a bit of tinkering I found out that the Share tab is if this computer is going to be the server and the Use tab is for a client. I tried entering the hostname in the text field but that wouldn’t work for whatever reason. It wasn’t until I entered the IP address of the server that things started working.QuickSynergy on FedoraAnd now for the pièce de résistance. Here is my desktop computing experience!3 monitors, 2 machines, 1 keyboard & mouse. Sorry for the poor picture quality.P.S.It’s not cheating to use a Windows machine. I needed it to do work. As far as I can tell the linux doesn’t have Visual Studio 2008 with VB.NET support… yet 😉 FedoraLinuxsynergywindows

I have a pretty average synergy setup. My main synergy server is on OSX (10.8) and my synergy client is on a linux box (Fedora 19). Any synergy user can understand how convenient it is to use: you start up the server and the client, and you can seamlessly move your mouse and keyboard between all of your screens. When you first start it up, things work mostly great (there are some clipboard issues copying from server to client, but that is another issue). However, things can get a littley annoying once your displays have gone to sleep. After waking up from sleep, the synergy client will often have drastically altered mouse speeds. The mouse, at this point, will become too fast and sensitive to use practically. Unfortunately, this is a bug in the synergy software, and as of this writing is not yet fixed. The most practical (yet unsatisfying) solution to this problem is to simply restart your synergy server. The client will automatically reconnect and your mouse response will be back to normal. It's an ugly workaround, but until a proper fix can be implemented, it's the best option at hand.Synergy - Mouse and keyboard sharing

From the screen of one computer to the other, both the keyboard-computer link and the mouse-computer link “seamlessly” changes.I reviewed all the solutions for this and settled on Synergy by Symless. I then tried out version 1-point-something, which happened also to be on sale at the time, so I think it was less than $20. (Yes, this is not open source free software, but not everything is!)I didn’t like that solution, and eventually uninstalled it. That is when I bought the USB switch. It was too slow. The performance of the mouse on the host computer was affected, and slowed down. So, as I moved the mouse across the screen, mouse-over events (when you move the mouse of a button or window or something) slowed down and sometimes stopped the mouse. Moving to the other computer was sometimes jumpy, sometimes didn’t work. Setup and re-setup when things went wrong was off. In order to make this work I actually had to keep a keyboard and mouse (in my case, bluetooth, small, and out of the way so no biggie) hooked up to the client computer in order to get that computer out of sleep mode, locked screensaver, or address issues on startup before the Synergy server-client thingie started working, or to fix the Synergy client server. The advantage would have included the possibility of copy and past between computers, but in this version that was quirky and having that option on seemed to slow it down even more. (Note, your network may matter in how well this works, see below.)The Synergy Fix: Attempt two pretty happyBut then Synergy 2.0 came out and it was good enough to prompt me to write it up and suggest you try it. Now, for me, I had already bought Synergy 1-point-something, so the upgrade on an extended black friday sale was $12. For you it will be closer to $50, but they guarantee satisfaction. The upgrade and set up was not flawless or seamless but it did eventually work. I think I still need the second keyboard and mouse set up, but again, that is just a bluetooth setup stashed off to the side. If you are a multi-computer, multi-monitor level operator you have this hardware around anyway. The mouse seems to behave perfectly normally and cut and paste between computers is fine. With the earlier version, the keyboard stalled unacceptably often when using Synergy and typing into a browser or editor or a text editor. I find all things that interfere with typing to be unacceptable because because I am a writer. Also, I can really notice the slowdowns or stuttering, again, because banging stuff out on the keyboard is what I do. I will not tolerate a software solution that messes with this.Under the current system, the server computer (in this case a Linux computer) works flawlessly when typing. I see a small amount of hesitation every now and then on the client computer, a Mac, but this mac is slow and old, so ISynergy Mouse and Keyboard - DigitalVA

BarrierEliminate the barrier between your machines.Find releases for windows and macOS here.Your distro probably already has barrier packaged for it, see distro specific packagesbelow for a list. Alternatively, we also provide a flatpakand a snap.Contact info:#barrier on LiberaChat IRC networkCI Build StatusMaster branch overall build status: PlatformBuild StatusLinuxMacWindows DebugWindows ReleaseSnapOur CI Builds are provided by Microsoft Azure Pipelines, Flathub, and Canonical. What is it?Barrier is software that mimics the functionality of a KVM switch, which historically would allow you to use a single keyboard and mouse to control multiple computers by physically turning a dial on the box to switch the machine you're controlling at any given moment. Barrier does this in software, allowing you to tell it which machine to control by moving your mouse to the edge of the screen, or by using a keypress to switch focus to a different system.Barrier was forked from Symless's Synergy 1.9 codebase. Synergy was a commercialized reimplementation of the original CosmoSynergy written by Chris Schoeneman. At the moment, barrier is not compatible with synergy. Barrier needs to be installed on all machines that will share keyboard and mouse. What's different?Whereas Synergy has moved beyond its goals from the 1.x era, Barrier aims to maintain that simplicity.Barrier will let you use your keyboard and mouse from one computer to control one or more other computers.Clipboard sharing is supported. That's it.Project goalsHassle-free reliability. We are users, too. Barrier was created so that we could solve the issues we had with synergy and then share these fixes with other users.Compatibility. We use more than one operating system and you probably do, too. Windows, OSX, Linux, FreeBSD... Barrier should "just work". We will also have our eye on Wayland when the time comes.Communication. Everything we do is in the open. Our issue tracker will let you see if others are having the same problem you're having and will allow you to add additional information. You will also be able to see when progress is made and how the issue gets resolved.UsageInstall and run barrier on each machine that will be sharing. On the machine with the keyboard and mouse, make it the server.Click the "Configure server" button and drag a new screen onto the grid for each client machine.Ensure the "screen name" matches exactly (case-sensitive) for each configured screen -- the clients' barrier windows will tell you their screen names (just above the server IP).On the client(s), put in the server machine's IP address (or use Bonjour/auto configuration when prompted) and "start" them. You should see Barrier is running on both server and clients. You should now be able to move the mouse between all the screens as if they were the same machine.Note that if the keyboard's Scroll Lock is active then this will prevent the mouse from switching screens.Contact & supportPlease be aware that the only way to draw our attention to a bug is to create a new issue in the issue tracker. Write a clear, concise, detailed report and you will get a clear, concise, detailed response. PriorityComments

I see a small amount of hesitation every now and then on the client computer, a Mac, but this mac is slow and old, so I
