VDH used to capture any YouTube video, now when I try to use it VDH says I need to install some converter. But when I click on the link it actually gives me instructions for changing settings in my OS terminal! WTF?! Is there another add-on for FF that will do the same thing the older version of VDH used to do? Posted: Apr 7, 2015 - 11:31 PM By: T.J. I'm not messing with the back end of my OS just to use an add-on. The finer points of worm classification, most will care about another important difference between tapeworms and the roundworms discussed earlier:Tapeworms have indirect, rather than direct, life cycles. This means that they require another species (which varies from one tapeworm species to the next) to complete their life cycles. There are a few different tapeworm species that can afflict dogs, but the most common — the appropriately named dog tapeworm (Dipylidium caninum) — requires both fleas and dogs to develop fully. Dogs normally get them by eating infected fleas during their normal grooming process.Other tapeworms that afflict dogs include the rabbit (Taenia pisiformis) and pork (Taenia solium) tapeworms. These can be contracted by eating contaminated food made from these proteins, or via the fecal-oral route, if your dog has contact with rabbit or pig feces. Once inside your dog’s digestive tract, the tapeworms attach themselves to the small intestine. Unlike hookworms, which feed on the blood contained in the intestinal tissues, tapeworms simply help themselves to the partially digested food coming down the pipe.Because tapeworms don’t feed on blood and infestations rarely occur in high numbers, they’re rarely responsible for causing serious illness. However, they’re still grody (technically speaking), and they may cause mild symptoms like an itchy butt and weight loss.Tapeworm infestations can usually be identified by observing proglottids (shed tapeworm segments which contain eggs) in a dog’s feces. Proglottids are typically described as resembling small pieces of white or yellow rice. Dog tapeworms can infect people, but they’re treatable and rather easy to avoid with good hygiene practices. You can purchase medications that will eliminate your dog’s tapeworm medication over-the-counter, although you can also get them from your vet if you prefer. Or being connected to "Hollywood Cinema". So "Hollywood Cinema" does not "trump" all other filmmaking, Hollywood movies do not "trump" RASHOMON, and I don't think many cineasts would argue that Michael Bay's TRANSFORMERS "trumps" Jean Cocteau's ORPHÉ, but Hollywood Cinema definitely has had the most "impact". And "impact" is for me one of several criteria I would consider when discussing the "greatest", in any field. And the question was not about "favorite" composers, but "greatest" composer. Now it depends on the applied criteria for what one considers "greatest", but if it's just "favorite", of course, anything goes. So then the answer will skew to money, power, and influence (Hollywood) rather than the inherent qualities of the composer and/or how often he/she is hired? I guess Taylor Swift is a greater composer than JS Bach, because she's sold more records. That's a false equivalency, considering JS Bach wrote classical music and Swift pop music. They operate in completely different fields. Also I'm willing to bet that if you would combine the sales of every Bach piece ever recorded the sales numbers would be higher than Swift's. And as been stated many times in this thread, there are more criteria to consider than just sales. I also wouldn't be sure that Hans Zimmer is more popular than John Williams. Of course, "popularity" is difficult to measure. I think he is today, since he has become a kind of international pop star. But it's difficult to measure, indeed. I think more people young and old know who John Williams is. The guy who did the Star Wars. Zimmer became the next generation composer. Yes, more popular with the younger generations, but not as well known or beloved over all demographics. Also I'm willing to bet that if you would combine the sales of every Bach piece ever recorded the sales numbers would be higher than Swift's. And as been stated many times in this thread, there are more criteria to consider than just sales. I would remind you that film music is an application, not a genre, and that film music could encompass anything from JS Bach to Taylor Swift. So within the context of a film music discussion, it is not at all a false equivalency. Posted: Apr 14, 2021 - 6:34 AM By: Paul MacLean (Member) I can't imagine it being anyone other than John Williams. I can't think of under what reasonable (if arbitrary) criterion anyone else comes close. Do you think that the categories of films one views is a reasonable criterion? Does mainstream Hollywood trump all other film-making? Is it reasonable to think that people who avoid mainstream Hollywood may list different favorite directors and composers than someone who, say, saw each Spielberg film in the theatre when it opened? I agree that someone who subsists entirely on a diet of Hollywood blockbusters has a limited perspective. I won't deny Raiders of the Lost Ark and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban are among my favorite movies. But some of my other favorite movies include Ran, Chinatown, Lawrence of Arabia, Seven Samurai, On Her Majesty's Secret Service and the 1996 version of Richard III. But still, I consider John Williams the greatest currently living. Yes, he's best-known for the escapist pop culture juggernauts of Lucas and Spielberg, and Home Alone, Superman, etc. But before all that he scored films directed by Hitchcock, Altman, Wyler, Sinatra, etc. And in between the blockbusters he found time for things like Angela's Ashes, Seven Years in Tibet and The Book Thief. Yet Ennio Morricone is not one of my favourite composers, even if some of his scores are among my favourites like The Thing, Marco Polo or The Mission. And I wish John Williams had composed more unconventional film scores like The Missouri Breaks or Close Encounters of the Third Kind. He did, of course, many great film scores and as I said there's not doubt he is one of the greatest. No one in America could tell you who Ennio Morricone is outside of score fans.
