FoCal is usually purchased for calibrating personally owned camera and lens equipment and the normal FoCal single user license is the right option. There are other 'use cases' and this page sets out 3 different types of FoCal license. FoCal Single User License (right for most users) A Reikan FoCal personal or single user license allows up to 5 registered cameras at any one time (tied to the unique camera serial number). The license can be updated to cater for personal equipment changes, it is not designed or licensed for commercial use or providing FoCal calibration services to others. The Reikan FoCal website and store is the way to purchase this type of license. Further details of what this license covers in the FAQ entry What does the license cover? FoCal Commercial License A Reikan FoCal commercial license is registered to a single computer and allows use with an unlimited number of supported cameras for the period of one year. FoCal has commercial license holders around the world, some are listed on the page FoCal Calibration Services. There are requirements commercial license holders of FoCal must meet, commercial users must agree to the following conditions: Have in-depth experience using Reikan FoCal with Nikon and Canon camera systems and a variety of lens types (macro/wide/telephoto etc.) such they could be considered expert level users before offering a FoCal calibration service to clients. We do not offer refunds on FoCal commercial licences. Users must ensure they are very familiar and competent with FoCal and are completely sure it meets their needs before committing to purchase. FoCal Club License If you run or are involved in a camera or photography club a Club License is a great way to pool resources. This license is similar to a commercial license and tied to a single computer, allowing FoCal to be used with any number of supported cameras for the period of one year. Main Purchasing, Licensing and Updates Can I upgrade from FoCal Plus to FoCal Pro? You can upgrade from FoCal Plus to FoCal Pro at any time. There is no upgrade fee other than the price difference between versions. If you purchase a license for Reikan FoCal Plus and later decide to upgrade to Reikan FoCal Pro, simply pay the difference and your license will update to enable the extra features. An upgrade is counted as a new purchase, you will have 12 months of included updates from the date of the upgrade. Upgrade from FoCal Plus to FoCal Pro by logging into the License Management System and scrolling to the section titled Upgrade to FoCal Pro (shown below) Note, if you have previously been using FoCal Plus there is nothing extra to download or install. Once the upgrade has been purchased open FoCal and you should see a message your license details have changed (shown below) Click “Yes”, FoCal will re-start and you will gain access to the FoCal Pro features. If you aren’t prompted to update your FoCal license, click “Help” and “License” and the above message will be displayed.

Main Purchasing, Licensing and Updates I’ve bought FoCal how do I download it? When you choose to purchase Reikan FoCal an automatic notification is sent to the email address used at time of purchase (or time of registering if purchased via distributor). The notification email should arrive within a few minutes, check your Spam/Bulk email folder as occasionally emails can be wrongly classified. Please get in touch with us if you haven’t received the notification within an hour or so and we will investigate. You can download FoCal software via the License Management System. If you’ve forgotten your password you can use your registered email address to do a password reset on the same page. Once logged into the License Management System you will see the most recent release of FoCal to download (both macOS and Windows versions). You also have access to older releases by clicking “Click here to Show or Hide Older Downloads”

Click a heading below for further information. Connecting to your computer or mobile device This camera cannot currently be controlled by FoCal. You can run selected tests in File Mode, where you capture a series of files manually and FoCal will perform the analysis. See the Supported Features section for more information. Environment Setup Choose a location with a solid floor Ground floor locations are less likely to vibrate when people move, trucks drive past outside the building etc. The quality of your test results will be affected if there is vibration to the camera/lens during the test. Attach the target firmly to a vertical wall at approximately the height of the camera lens If you print the target yourself, make sure it is flat and cannot blow around during testing. We recommend using a FoCal Hard Target (available from the Reikan FoCal Store) as these are the targets we use for all our development and testing. Ensure the target is well lit with a stable light source We don’t recommend the use of fluorescent or LED lighting as they can flicker – you won’t be able to see this with your eye, but the camera can be affected and the results may not be as accurate as possible. Also avoid changeable outdoor lighting - e.g. clouds moving across the sky. FoCal can compensate for small light level changes, but large changes can cause problems during testing. Attach the camera or lens to a solid, sturdy tripod If the option is available for your tripod, you can hang something heavy from the hook at the base of the centre column to further stabilise the camera lens during testing. For large lenses, use the supplied tripod collar and attach the lens to the tripod (not the camera) - this will not only reduce strain on the camera mount, but also make the whole camera/lens system more stable.
