2025-04-18#1 I edited some images in Capture NX2 and converted them to TIFF files, because, as a previous post of mine ( explained, I was not satisfied with the conversion to JPEG when a small file size is needed.I then used Graphic Converter to convert the TIFFs to JPEG and was satisfied with the results as GC allows you to omit the EXIF etc. and thus get down to a small file size with decent image quality. However, it created 2 JPEGS for each TIFF, one quite a bit smaller than the other. If I view each TIFF file with Preview (on a Mac), it also shows two images for each file - I guess one is an embedded thumbnail in the TIFF file.Is there a way to convert to TIFF within NX2 without including the thumbnail? Thanks.Barry Last edited by a moderator: Mar 15, 2017 #2 No, I don't think so. But Nikon ViewNX2 does not insert the thumbnail. The thumbnail is tiny and could be useful, I don't see why it is a problem. However I have a solution which means you won't need to use GC to make your smaller JPGs. Use Nikon View NX2 after using Capture NX2 (if you need more advanced editing - you might find View NX2 does all you need). If you really want to not have the thumbnail, simply edit all your photos in Capture NX2, then run View NX2 and use the Convert option to export them all as TIFFs, and it will do exactly what you want, no thumbnail.View NX2 Convert Files also allows you to export as JPG in any size you want, so you can do it all in one step. You choose the number of pixels to make it smaller, the quality, and many other options. #3 If you "Open
2025-04-01Nikon Capture NX-D overviewCapture NX-D (was Capture NX) is a non-destructive RAW image processing application that utilizes a new sidecar system to save adjustments for Nikon photographers looking to make adjustments to their .NEF or .NRW files. Photographers who are used to working with their .NEF or .NRW files in Nikon Capture NX2 or Nikon View NX2 will find the new Capture NX-D quicker in its processing time and intuitive to use. Once the .NEF or .NRW file is processed, it can then be moved to other imaging applications in a 16-bit TIFF format with a single click of the mouse. Capture NX-D is designed to get the most out of Nikon RAW image files - so images will look as great as they do whether they're from the latest Nikon cameras or older files that you want to work on again. What’s new in version 1.6.5Version 1.6.5: Fixed an issue that prevented the software opening pictures recorded with the iPhone 12 (the extension must be changed from ".JPEG" to ".JPG"). Fixed an issue that resulted in extensive changes to hue when files in the AdobeRGB color space were saved in JPEG format. Added support for macOS Big Sur (version 11). Ended support for macOS High Sierra (version 10.13).Write your thoughts in our old-fashioned commentMacUpdate Comment Policy. 2025-04-24D/l for use with my Nikon DSLR and deleted within 30 minutes. Most confusing GUI and UX. No idea what was happening; I opened a NEF [Nikon RAW] file and tried to manipulate image. Waste of time. Back to Photoshop and Pixelmator for me. Been using PS for 20+ years and Pixelmator since release. Nikon GUI is a poor effort at 'converting' Windows icons and file management.I had hoped to use Nikon software for Nikon Raw files but clearly not going to happen. Train wreck of software.Your mileage may vary, and if you get it work, I am very happy for you, but my experience working a 44MB Raw file was something I never want to repeat, and I definitely won't be back.ShadokussDec 18 20132.4.3Dec 18 2013Version: 2.4.32.4.5 update available ;)The latest version of NX2 is version 2.3.0 and it's much faster than previous versions. Actions that took several seconds and sometimes minutes, are now processed much faster. The app is now 64-bit.This software is a great tool if you use Nikon DSLRs. What I still really miss is the possibility to use plugins as Silver Efex Pro™ 2 from NikSoftware. I hope that Nikon and NikSoftware eventually finally will decide to make it possible to use all of NikSooftwares plugins from within NX2. That will make my day!HigherterrainSep 22 20112.2.7Sep 22 2011Version: 2.2.7You can find the update to Capture NX 2 2.2.8 following this link 22 20102.2.4Jan 22 2010Version: 2.2.4With all it quirky ways, I would love to use
