Memtest 86 - test operačn paměti RAM
Hello I've got some new Ram recentlly, and I am trying to tweak them a little, for this I use Ryzen DRAM Calculator, However it's numbers prove extremly unstable (>100 errors in first pass) - the RAM is stable (no errors) when XMP is on, with everything on auto. so found what seems like a great guide here: (original redit post with document: following this information, I begin to manually tweak timings - I leave voltages, impedances/resistance values (CAD BUS, procODT, RTT) on whatever the calculator gave, and than I just manualy entered timings (the ones used by XMP anyway, so that it's still running those without being on Auto) - everything stable. Afterwards, I change my tCL from 15>14, and I got again a huge error count in first 15 minutes of running mem test, so following troubleshooting instructions in previous guide, I managed to bring error count down to 2-3 errors in 2/3 pass, by increasing DRAM voltage (1,35->1,38), but no further. The guide says quote: AddrCmdDrv or AddrCmdDrvStr(en): Address/Command Drive Strength/Impedance. The resistance on the following CPU (or memory controller?) pins: address, RAS, CAS, WE, bank, parity. Theoretically, then, raising it can increase stability of tight timings. So I've increased said CAD impedance from 20 ohm (recomended by DRAM Calculator) -> 30 ohm. Now interesting part begins - I ran Memtest 86 for little more than 2 hours (3 passes - no errors), then I stoped the test to do some work on my PC, two hours later I started test again, made apsolutelly no changes in BIOS, just to run bassically the last 4th pass, guess what, I get 3 errors on test 7 on very first pass, there is no point in running itg further so I stoped and began my research on what could happen, I found nothing really. Did anyone experience something simillar? This gives the question, How relible is Memtest 86?, if it gives errors seeminglly at random, first run - 3 passes - no errors; second round - first pass - 3+ errors. If it is reliable, how long or how much do I need to run it to verify stability? , and I mean betwen changing things (I've just started, there are more than 40 timings to tweak, and already I've run it a dozen times, I fear in the end I will end up with more damage than good becouse I run a stresstest software so much, plus it is extreemly time consuming), and finally when everything is done, how long to run (how many passes) to be apsolutelly sure everything is stable? Also are there any alternatives, what do you use when OC-ing memory? Thank you To check your RAM’s health status and troubleshoot for any errors using the Passmark Memtest 86 freeware tool, you will need to: Download and install the Passmark Memtest 86 application from the following link: Passmark Maybe try burning another copy of a newly downloaded iso image file, but I'm running out of things to try and get this booted. [Update] So I tried a different USB stick and same problem and I also tried another burnt CD at the lowest speed possible. But guess what, I popped a freshly downloaded nas4free cd in and it has booted first time no problem. I would rather use FreeNas so any more suggestions? #7 Okay, I have these suggestions for now. 1) To prevent you from spinning your wheels you should run MemTest 86+ on your system for three complete passes. This will take some time and you can download it from the internet. It comes as a bootable iso so you can boot it and run it.2) Please list your system hardware.3) If you can run 64 bit (based on your CPU), then you should run the 64 bit version. Please ensure you are running the correct version. I'll know based on your answer to the above question. Also if you have less than 4GB or RAM, you should run the 32 bit version.4) When you loaded the USB stick from the USB CD drive, did you have any problems loading it?5) Since it appears you were able to load the FreeNAS image directly to a USB Flash drive earlier, you can do that again if it works for you. Nas4Free is a good product as well and well supported by it's members. But if you are having problems running FreeNAS, then I would think you would end up having problems with Nas4Free at some point in time. #8 Thanks for the suggestions, I will try MemTest this evening but I can probably answer some of the other stuff now: 2) HP Microserver N54l (AMD Turion 2.2GHz) , 2GB ECC Ram, 2 x 3TB Toshiba HDD in hardware Raid 1. I know it says not to use hardware raid but I decided against wanting to use ZFS as I had concerns about not being able to increase the storage pool once created if I add more drivesComments

Préparation A. Télécharger Memtest B. Préparer Memtest C. Préparer le boot 3. Utilisation 4. Conclusion 5. Liens utiles 1.
Happy testing!
