I am still trying to narrow down a cause for this issue. It still happens, but not very frequently so it is difficult to troubleshoot. As soon as I reboot the problem goes away and it can be days or weeks before it occurs again. It does not seem to be related to any of the suggestions posted, but again it is difficult to determine. Recommended Posts Share I recently purchased a new workstation from Dell (Dual Xeon 5130, 4 gig ram, quadro FX 3450, win xp pro). I installed a new copy of Max 8 and registered it with Autodesk. I opened it and everything worked fine. Then I closed it and downloaded the probooleans extension, and S.P. 3. When I tried to install those updates it brought up an error message saying that 3DSmax.exe was running, and that it needed to be closed to continue. I restarted the computer, but 3dsmax.exe still came up in the process viewer. So I uninstalled and reinstalled Max, (all anti-virus disabled), restarted, and it still runs the process constantly. I tried to end the process and it wouldn't let me, it brought up a message saying 'access denied'. So now I don't know what to do to get this process to terminate correctly. I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks. I then tried a repair-reinstall with the Max DVD and the problem still exists. Not sure if it could be a similar thing with the quadro fx. I've checked that it can connect using the test connection and advanced connection settings but both say that I can connect and that there are no problems with the system settings or software. I've also checked that the MSN service is running when I try to log in. The accounts work in Messenger 6.2 so I don't think it's that. Can't uninstall McFee Endpoint Security 10.5.1 to complete

Windows 7 and the entire machine froze (not just internet explorer) after I installed McAfee with SiteAdvisor. The only way to get it to unfreeze was to boot in safe mode and disable the SiteAdvisor service. Once that was done everything started working again.It's sad to see that many decent systems returns to the 8-bit performance era with this kind of security apps.I got a "similar" situation with the software that you mention (maybe same version).I buy a netbook that cames with McFee+SA (with 1 or 2 month trial), at first I wonder if the netbooks was a bad choice (slow on startup + navigation + open files + IE crashes, etc.), I give chance to McF the trial time just to know it, after the time trial of McF-soft expired, I backup our personal data, reinstall windows (I want know what need to be installed), but instead of use McF I install Avast Home (free for a year by home use). Now at home we are happy using this system (+3 months ago) zero issues and the slow effect is gone.Of course it's your choice what security apps you want to run on your system.Hope you can try others apps and finally end with a well configured system.
