2025-04-15IPerf3 is a tool for active measurements of the maximum achievable bandwidth on IP networks. It supports tuning of various parameters related to timing, buffers and protocols (TCP, UDP, SCTP with IPv4 and IPv6). For each test it reports the bandwidth, loss, and other parameters. This is a new implementation that shares no code with the original iPerf and also is not backwards compatible. iPerf was orginally developed by NLANR/DAST. iPerf3 is principally developed by ESnet / Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. It is released under a three-clause BSD license. iPerf features: TCP and SCTP Measure bandwidth Report MSS/MTU size and observed read sizes. Support for TCP window size via socket buffers. UDP Client can create UDP streams of specified bandwidth. Measure packet loss Measure delay jitter Multicast capable Cross-platform: Windows, Linux, Android, MacOS X, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD, VxWorks, Solaris,... Client and server can have multiple simultaneous connections (-P option). Server handles multiple connections, rather than quitting after a single test. Can run for specified time (-t option), rather than a set amount of data to transfer (-n or -k option). Print periodic, intermediate bandwidth, jitter, and loss reports at specified intervals (-i option). Run the server as a daemon (-D option) Use representative streams to test out how link layer compression affects your achievable bandwidth (-F option). A server accepts a single client simultaneously (iPerf3) multiple clients simultaneously (iPerf2) New: Ignore TCP slowstart (-O option). New: Set target bandwidth for UDP and (new) TCP (-b option). New: Set IPv6 flow label (-L option) New: Set congestion control algorithm (-C option) New: Use SCTP rather than TCP (--sctp option) New: Output in JSON format (-J option). New: Disk read test (server: iperf3 -s / client: iperf3 -c testhost -i1 -F filename) New: Disk write tests (server: iperf3 -s -F filename / client: iperf3 -c testhost -i1) OS: Windows Vista, Windows Vista x64, Windows 7, Windows 7 x64, Windows 8, Windows 8 x64, Windows 10, Windows 10 x64
2025-03-29Measured throughput testingEkahau Site Survey 8.0 brought in a new feature called active throughput testing and Ekahau AI Pro continues to support this feature. This feature allows you to measure the actual data throughput that your network is capable of.In order to measure the throughput, Ekahau AI Pro requires another computer (hereafter referred to as server) with which to communicate. The server must run an iPerf2, iPerf3 or iperf3-ekahau (recommended) process in server mode.Ekahau AI Pro (since version 11.1.2) no longer includes the ePerf application in its installation, but you either find needed application in older version of the application or through this download link. The server should ideally be connected to a high speed wired network with fast routing to the tested Wi-Fi network. This is in order to eliminate the server from being the bottleneck for the throughput test. In order to communicate with the server, Ekahau AI Pro also requires that you have a Wi-Fi adapter associated to the tested network.Ekahau AI Pro will always bind the test to a specific network interface's association (Can be selected under adapter configuration). Make sure that roaming between that specific associated network and the server works. Ekahau AI Pro will never use wired connection for testing throughput. Please refer to the Active Throughput Surveys manual for closer details on determining the parameters that best suit your testing needs. What is ePerf anyways? This is Ekahau's streamlined version of iperf3 throughput testing server. Built from scratch on the Java programming language. This is a simplified version of the official open source iperf3 server which supports only a bare minimum feature set needed for Ekahau AI Pro throughput tests. It was implemented because the official version's stability was insufficient for unreliable roaming Wi-Fi networks and additionally it also contained unnecessary functionality for the application's purposes.Running ePerf on Ekahau AI ProMost of the extra options of regular iPerf3 have been removed from Ekahau version and Ekahau ePerf uses only one optional argument: the port on which to listen for connections. Default port is 5201. The program needs to be able to listen on TCP/UDP ports, so depending on your user permissions you may have to run the application as administrator. This program requires Java 8 or later to run. If you already have it installed then you should be able to just run the "run_eperf_server.bat". Alternatively, you can just run a premade run_eperf_server_embedded_jre.bat (which has embedded Java) that
