Believe I read somewhere (not in an advertisement) that Cold Steels Triad-Lock was the toughest lock-back you can get. I'm not a "test a lock until it fails" kind of guy, but the Cold Steel lock-backs that I have handled do feel really robust when locked up, and there is a very satisfying "clack" when the lock engages. Looking down into the pivot area, the notch where the lock engages is quite deep. which might help prevent accidental disengagement from the palm while "white-knuckling" the handle.OP - I have never had a failure of any lock (liner, frame, or otherwise) on a quality knife, but researched the topic considerably when I was into tactical folders... Personally, I feel that a frame lock would be safer, since the pressure of the hand gripping on the handle would "capture" the lock bar and press it inward, adding pressure/strength to the engagement surfaces. I would think that the exact opposite would be true of a liner lock, because the scale is in the way, allowing meat from the hand to possibly disengage the lock. The locking mechanism on a folder IMO is only a safety, not a substitute for a fixed blade and it shouldnt be used as such. #3 General thrusting stabbing and slicing What I'm asking is, is the framelock less likely to fail than the liner lock under duress? #4 I have had liner locks fail on me. Take a look at the Benchmade Axis lock, truly my favorite folder locking mechanism.For me, if the task at hand requires questioning the lock on my folder then a fixed blade is used. #5 I don't think the linker lock is weaker that the frame lock it all depends on the quality of knife.
