(No Model.) R. H. SMITH. HEKTOGRAPH. No. 342,141. Patented May 1a, 1886. Maya/m mafm'a- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. ROLAND H. SMITH, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA. HEKTOGRAPH. SPECIFICATION forming partiel' Letters Patent No. 342,141, dated May 18l 1886. Application filed October 2, 1884. Serial No. 144,571. (No model.) T a/ZZ whom, it may concern..- Beit known that I, ROLAND H. SMITH, a citizen ofthe United Sta-tes, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hektographs, of which the following is a specication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings. i My invention relates to hektographs, and the object I have in view is to provide sheets of paper with a hektograph material upon one side and a non-adhesive material upon the other, in order that books or packages may beA formed of said sheets Without injury to the face of the sheet in transportation or in use. In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate my invention, Figure' 1 represents a de tached perspective view of two sheets of paper, showing the relation of the hektograph and nonadhesive materials; and Fig. 2 a perspective view of the same in book form. In the manufacture of my invention I first takea sheet or sheets of any ordinary paper, and after heating them sufficiently I Vspread over the face a coating of hektograph material. The heat causes the material to iiow over the sheet so that its surface will be even and smooth. The back of the sheetis provided with a coating of wax or oily material, which will not adhere to the hektograph material upon the face. The sheets thus prepared may be put together in book form or in packages for use or for transportation without danger of damage to the copysurface. The sheets may be washed off for use again,or may be kept intact in case future impression may be needed. The sheets and books may of course be made of any suitable size. I am aware that tar has been used upon one side ofa hektograph sheet; hence I disclaim such. In the drawings, Aindicates the upper surface` of the sheets upon which the hektograph material is placed, and B the under surface of same, which is provided with the nonadhesive material. Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- As an article of manufacture, a hektograph consisting of a sheet or sheets of paper or other suitable material provided upon one side with a thin coating ofhektograph material and upon the other with a coating of material nonadhesive to the said hek tograph material, the same capable of A perspective view of one form of my invention showing the sheet partly unrolled. Of the rubber like material without the coating of hektograph composition. The operation and advantages of my invention Will be readily understood in connection with the foregoing description and the accompanying drawing. By placing a long sheet of the rubber like material coated with hektograph composition in the form of a roll, the hektograph device 1's in such form that it may be conveniently used for a considerable period of time. A suitable' piece for immediate use is cut from the outer part 0f the roll and. the rest of the roll is sealed up for future use. The pieces of hektograph material are used in a we1l known manner which it is not necessary to describe in detail. But the rubber like material has distinct advantages because it 1s moisture proof has great tear-resistance, has toughness with some give without undue elasticity, and has heat sealing qualities so that a moderate amount of heat With pressure provides a good mo'isture and air seal. Although I have shown and described specific embodiments of my invention, I am fully aware that other embodiments are possible. My invention, therefore, is not to be restricted except insofar as is necessitated by the prior art and by the spirit of the following claims. I claim: 1. A hektograph device comprising a sheet of rubber like material which 1's moisture proof even after considerable vvrinkling and creasing, Which has great tear-resistance, which has toughness combined with some give without undue elasticity, and which has heatComments
