A GNOME spreadsheet application.Synopsisgnumeric [OPTIONS] [files ... ]DescriptionGnumeric is a powerful spreadsheet program created by the GNOME project. Gnumeric intends to compete with commercial spreadsheets by becoming fully compatible with Microsoft Excel(TM) and through the support of most popular spreadsheet file formats such as Excel(TM), Lotus 1-2-3(TM), Applix(TM), Sylk(TM), XBase(TM), Oleo(TM) and OpenOffice.org formats.Gnumeric supports advanced calculations using statistical, financial and database access functions. Plotting data is supported through an incomplete but powerful plotting system. A plugin system extends gnumeric , for instance enabling the export of data to the LaTeX \longtable format. Plugins can be used to define custom functionality. A rudimentary scripting API for the Python language exists and will be extended in the near future. Since gnumeric is free software, gnumeric can also be extended directly at the source code level by any competent programmer. The program can be started from the command line as gnumeric or from one of the menus provided by the underlying platform. When started on the command line, gnumeric may be followed by the options listed below and possibly the names of files in various spreadsheet formats which will then be opened immediately. For instance, the command: gnumeric myfile.gnumericwill launch gnumeric and open the file called "myfile.gnumeric". The default gnumeric file format is in extensible markup language (XML) which subsequently has been compressed with gzip.User OptionsThis program follows the usual GNU command line syntax, with single letter options starting with a single dash (`-') and longer options starting with two dashes (`--').Help options-?, --help Show help message.--usageDisplays a brief usage message.Gnumeric options-v, --versionDisplays the version number of the installed instance of gnumeric.--no-splashStart gnumeric without showing the splash screen. Full SpecificationsGENERALReleaseDecember 12, 2011Latest updateFebruary 29, 2024Version5.3.1OPERATING SYSTEMSPlatformLinuxAdditional RequirementsNonePOPULARITYTotal Downloads25,798Downloads Last Week90Report SoftwareProgram available in other languagesDescargar Puppy LinuxUser ReviewsAmazing OS runs a computer without a hard drive!!ProsFast download, burned to CD, booted, created bootable USB- it works! Comes with lots of apps, but is so small that it fits on a USB flashdrive and loads into RAM. Will work on an old machine, even if the hard drive is trashed. Use to rescue data.ConsThe media player (Gxine) did not work, but I'll try another, like VLC. I'm using the PuppyBrowser, but I think I'll switch to Firefox (it's included). I have not tested every included app with my machine (a Pentium dual core laptop).SummaryInstalling an alternative operating system is easy with this distro of Linux called ?Lucid Puppy.? Download the .iso file, burn it (they recommend burn 'slowly') to a CD with a utility like imgburn, Look on the Puppy website and copy the instructions, including the tutorial on how to get it on a USB drive. The Puppy Linux site has lots of information about what it can do, like; Abiword, a MS Word compatible word processor; InkscapeLite is a vector drawing program; Gnumeric an Excel compatible spread sheet;Seamonkey browser, plus Foxfire, Puppy (which I?m using) and other browsers;mtPaint is like Windows paint; SeaMonkey mail and news email client;ROX is the file manager. This takes the place of Windows explorer. Ayttm is a chat client.Osmo the personal organiser.Internet Connection Wizard .Scientific and 5 other calculators,Wizards for hardware, Screen capture,.pdf viewer and maker (?PuppyPDF convert to PDF?),alarm clock;firewall;download accelerator; ?Puppy-Podcast-Grabber;?disc burning utilities, cd/dvd rip?.burn, media players, streaming video, online Help which includes lots of add-ons.Read the online info to see how you can get an old computer running ? without having to fix a broken hard drive. Just run the machine from a CD. Newer computers (2001 or so) that boot from USB can go that route. And the system is FAST. This is my first experience (a couple of hours so far) with Lucid Puppy and I think that this OS could replace Windows (except for running hard-core computer games).. Hiccups -- I came away impressed. What's in it?The included selection of software can be a bit overwhelming. In fact, there is so much software out of the box, you might think this distribution isn't well suited for new users. After all, you get apps like:LibreOffice (including the database component and LibreOffice for Schools).Wine (for running Windows apps).AbiWord (word processor).Calibre (ebook reader and creator).Gnumeric (spreadsheet).HomeBank (personal accounting).Childsplay (educational games).OpenBoard (interactive whiteboard).TuxMath (math learning program).Tux Paint (drawing program for kids).GIMP (image editor).Scribus (page layout and publication).Sweet Home 3D (interior design program).gPodder (podcast subscriptions).Jitsi Meet (video conferencing).Thunderbird (email).Audacity (record and edit audio).Gspeech (GUI for text-to-speech).Firefox (web browser). And that's just scratching the surface of the applications included. But clearly, as you scan the list of included applications, you see that Emmabuntüs is not only geared toward new users but also young new users. That's right, this is a great operating system for education. And it's not just the selection of software that should make Emmabuntüs a great option for educational institutions or those looking for a good operating system for a home with younger users. Also: SparkyLinux is a no-friils distribution anyone can useSee also Emmabuntüs not only includes parental control tools, it also prevents users from accessing the root account. Yes, your user will have sudo privileges, but the root user seems to be off limits. That's fine, because 1) it's more secure that way and 2) standard users can still install applications and handle other tasks that require admin privileges. The one thing that impressed me the most about Emmabuntüs is that it does a great job of walking users through everything -- from setting the desktop (between Xfce and LXQt), to installing extra software and updates, to selecting a theme, and choosing the type of dock you want (from minimal to everything). The developers have done an outstanding job of predicting what new users might need a bit of help with. Emmabuntüs makes it easy to select either the Xfce or LXQt desktop. Is hard to operate. So if you are looking for a Linux distro that’s lightweight, user-friendly, then you should simply try it.3. Puppy LinuxDefault User Interface: IceWM and ROX DesktopDownload: puppylinux.orgLike puppies? Who wouldn’t. And I am almost certain that you would love Puppy Linux too. Focused on low memory footprint and simplicity, this Linux based operating system is truly a lightweight distro. The complete system can easily run from RAM with new versions taking as less space as 210 MB.Lightweight applications such as AbiWord, MPlayer and Gnumeric are included, along with a web browser (lightweight) for your choice and a utility for downloading several other packages. Although, its default windows manager is JWM for all releases, you can get IceWM desktop, Fluxbox and Enlightenment through Puppy’s PetGet application management system.Read: What’s New In Linux Kernel 4.12 – 15 Biggest Feature and Changes2. LXLEDefault User Interface: LXDEDownload: lxle.netSince its initial release in 2012, LXLE has made its way to one of the best light-weight Linux distribution. It is based on Lubuntu and uses an optimized LXDE user interface. Although, the operating system was intended for old and resource deprived computer systems, it works well with high end systems too.It comes with a plethora of default applications that you need such as GIMP, LibreOffice, Audacity and much more. Apart from being light-weight it is also simple even for a beginner.1. LubuntuDefault User Interface: LXDEDownload: lubuntu.meNot just light-weight Linux distros, but any given list of Linux distributions is incomplete without Lubuntu. Lubuntu is based on Ubuntu and they share same repositories, but instead of Ubuntu’s GNOME and Unity shell it uses the LXDE desktop environment. Over the years, Lubuntu has gained its reputation as one of the fastest and light-weight Linux distributions, which might not be an “eye candy” but surely gives. Open old Lotus and Quattro Pro files in XLSX 1 Thread starter transmissiontowers Start date Aug 21, 2009 Status Not open for further replies. #1 My company migrated to Office 2007 with Excel 2007. I have some old spreadsheets with the extensions WB1, WQ1, and WK1 from old versions of Quattro Pro and Lotus IIRC. I asked our IT dept if there is a converter out there and they were less than helpful saying I needed to find and install the old software and save the files in Excel format. I don't think Excel was around when I was using Lotus in the 1980's so I doubt that it had a SAVEAS function to convert to XLS format. Is there a cheap way to convert the old WQ1 files to something Excel 2007 could open? I searched the web and found a couple that claim to do it but the trial version makes the formulas into text and numbers. I want the formulas to translate. I also tried Open Office which someone said would do it but was not very successful. I found a Gnumeric that will open one of the formats but not the other two. Has anyone done this? As big and powerful as MS seems to be, it seems to me that they would be able to open any spreadsheet as far back as Visicalc.TIA_____________________________________I have been called "A storehouse of worthless information" many times. Lubuntu is based on Ubuntu and they share same repositories, but instead of Ubuntu’s GNOME and Unity shell it uses the LXDE desktop environment. Over the years, Lubuntu has gained its reputation as one of the fastest and light-weight Linux distributions, which might not be an “eye candy” but surely gives
