Just like Shazam, SoundHound can tell you what song is playing at the tap of a button. But let’s say that song you just heard ended before you could whip out your phone and open Shazam. Not a problem. That’s where SoundHound comes in.If that song stuck in your head isn’t currently playing, you can hum it or sing its tune into SoundHound and it can identify the song. Of course, this depends on how closely your vocal interpretation of the song is to the actual song you’re trying to figure out. But, if it’s not wildly off, SoundHound can get the job done. Mashable Top Stories In addition, just call out to your phone “OK Hound, what song is this?” and the app’s voice controls will take over. Big deal, but I have to check and see if Audacity burns to disc directly. Maybe I just chose the wrong option.Oh, and I saw there was an option to remove vocals - haven't tried it, don't know if it works, but it was intriguing.I didn't bother to use the mp3 export thingy. I just export it as WAV. I can still open it in iTunes, and put it on iPod and a CD. Is there some disadvantage to WAV??I tried to burn a cut song onto a CD using Media and it wouldn't work. Tried to fix the error using FAQ and ran up against more errors. I know I've burned songs through Media before, so no clue why it didn't work this time. I had to use itunes to burn.I think the removing vocals is hit or miss. Everything I've googled and read says it depends on the individual song makeup. It didn't work on one song I tried, but haven't tried other songs yet.Once I find a piece I like I listen to it over and over and over and over, and eventually a natural place to cut out will stick out. I have some 1:40 cuts already, to audition for coach next season. Just making her life easier :angel I can't figure out how to merge music together though.. I've tried to find similar places then zoom in and cut out exactly the start of a note and paste it to the exact end of another note, but it never goes together smoothly. So far I've just been fading out one piece then fading in the new piece a second later. Can't figure out how people put pieces together with no pause in between? Quote from: Sierra on March 22, 2011, 02:16:50 PMAnother vote for Audacity. I wanted to get a head start on learning to find and cut music :angel so I downloaded Audacity and tooled around with songs. I didn't bother to use the mp3 export thingy. I just export it as WAV. I can still open it in iTunes, and put it on. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Muse - Plug In Baby (acoustic) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tabbed by:Eric Aari Duhamel Email:[email protected] Tuning:Standard Well, this is the notorious acoustic version of plug in baby. its probably just tuned down a full step, but since id rather not, i figured i would just tab it out for anyone who doesnt feel like tuning to D standard. noteworthy: as usual i havent layed out any sort of strumming reference. this is because i dont really believe in tabbing out a rhythm. im not going to sit here and try to tell you what i interpret as upstrokes and downstrokes, or how many strums go into each chord. if you are serious about learning the song, you should obviously be listening to the recording while reading the tab, guitar in hand. listen to the song, figure out a rhythm for yourself. i will do a lyrics sheet and song layout at the bottom. use each figure as shown, in the order dictated in the layout. also, the outro on the acoustic version i used to tab this out, appears to have an error, at the point where the intro riff begins for the last time. at about the 3 minute mark. you can almost hear matt or a band member scoff at the guitar foul up. the vocal solo after the second chorus, should be the intro/verse chords right through the outro ending on F. have fun and dont be scared to criticize. ,Eric. 2025-04-13Every week I receive emails from people asking me what guitar effects are used on specific songs. I used to reply back to all of these emails with the answers and even wrote a guide on the Effects used on All Along The Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix because I was asked about it so often. But by giving people the exact answers, I was going against what I know as a guitar teacher. If I told you exactly what effects and settings are used on a song, you miss out on developing your ears and learn to figure out different effects. Then when you want to move on to the next song, you’re starting again from scratch. So in this guide I’ll explain why you shouldn’t look for the easy answers and why it’s worth the effort to figure it all out by ear.Why Presets and Recommended Settings Can Cause More Harm Than GoodIn my Ultimate Guide to Guitar Amp Settings, I explain why searching for the perfect amp settings for a tone online is a waste of time. It’s one of the most important guides on this website because it’s a topic so many other websites get wrong. When it comes to replicating an effect or tone you hear in a song, knowing the effects used is only one part of the picture. The other part – the more important part – is knowing how to tweak and control those effects properly. The normal approach people take is to search online to find the suggestions for settings. You might search for “delay settings for lead guitar” or “distortion settings for Metallica”. While you might come across suggestions that just happen to work, you won’t learn from it. Then when you go to the next song you need to start again from scratch. You might feel that presets and recommended settings help give you a starting point to work with, but I’ve seen the negative side of all of this in my students over the years. Presets and recommended settings are shortcuts that cut out the important part where you develop your ears and build your sense of tone and effects. They’re like a recipe that cuts out the first half of the instructions on how to cook the food. You’re told what you end up with, but aren’t told how to put everything together.Imagine a great chef tasting a soup. Just from a taste the chef can figure out what key ingredients are used and can get pretty close at replicating the same taste and texture of the soup. A beginner might be able to identify one or two key ingredients, but even if all the ingredients were known he might still struggle
2025-03-27Through hundreds of lyric sites and databases and usually churns out pretty accurate results. You should also Google the context in which you heard the song. Did it come up in an episode of a TV show? Try searching for the soundtrack to the TV show or movie. Search specific terms like “song in Toyota commercial”.In the Google search, try describing the genre and artist. Was it sung by a male or female voice? Was it electronic or acoustic? Chill or energetic? Was the voice distinct? Could you make out any samples? These are all good things to include in a Google search and they would be smart to include in any post searching for the song as well.Radio Station ChartsIf all you know about the song is that you heard it on the radio and like it, but you can’t remember literally anything else (melody, lyrics, rhythm) your best bet is to look up what the station was playing that day.Just type in “recently played on 100.1 FM” and you should find their recently played playlists on their website. You can then go through the songs and figure out which was the one you heard. Voila, new favorite song! What Song Is This? Final ThoughtsSo which method is the best for finding what a song is called? Well, depending on how much information you have, different methods will work. If you have a clip of the song, an app like Shazam or Genius will be best. If you can hum or sing the song, an app like Soundhound or Midomi will do the trick. If you can play the song on the piano, tap the rhythm, or whistle the tune, Musipedia or MelodyCatcher will work best for you.If none of these methods work, then you should try enlisting the help of real
