It has been a little while since news broke that Microsoft was bringing back PowerToys for Windows 10 but four months down the line the company has kept its word.Microsoft has just released the first preview of PowerToys, and you can download two new utilities right now. Kicking things off are FancyZones, a window manager which greatly enhances window snapping for improved productivity, and Shortcut Guide, which uses a screen overlay to reveal the keyboard shortcuts you can use at any given time. Sadly, however, there is no TweakUI for Windows 10.Unlike the original version of PowerToys, this time around all of the settings for individual utilities are found in a single interface. For now, only FancyZones and Shortcut Guide show up, but this list will grow with future updates.Shortcut Guide is a simple tool, but a great one. With the utility activated, if you hold down the Windows key for a second, all of the available keyboard shortcuts you can use will be indicated in an overly -- a great way to learn time-saving tricks. But FancyZones is more interesting. The utility not only lets you snap windows into various arrangements to help improve your productivity and workflow, it also enables you to save and restore them for future use. Think of it as window snapping on steroids. Brilliant stuff. For help getting started with FancyZones, check out this introductory video:The release of PowerToys was met with eager excitement following Microsoft's announcement on Twitter:Announcing the first preview and code release of

By pressing the Win+Ctrl+Alt+[number] binding. The layout can also be applied by pressing the hotkey when dragging a window. In the demo below, we start with a default template applied to the screen and two custom layouts that we assign hotkeys for. We then use the Win+Ctrl+Alt+[number] binding to apply the first custom layout and snap a window to it. Finally, we apply the second custom layout while dragging a window and snap the window to it.TipThe settings for your custom zone layouts are saved in the file %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\PowerToys\FancyZones\custom-layouts.json. This file can be manually changed to tweak zones, and exported to share layouts across devices. Other json files in the same directory can be modified to alter settings for monitors, layout hotkeys, etc. Be warned that editing these files is not recommended as it may cause other issues with FancyZones functionality.SettingsSettingDescriptionConfigure the zone editor hotkeyTo change the default hotkey, click on the textbox and then press the desired key combination on your keyboard.Launch editor on the display [...]Select where the Editor will show.Hold Shift key to activate zones while draggingToggles between auto-snap mode with the Shift key (disabling snapping during a drag) and manual snap mode where pressing the Shift key during a drag enables snapping.Use a non-primary mouse button to toggle zone activationClicking a non-primary mouse button toggles the zones activationShow zones on all monitors while dragging a windowBy default, FancyZones shows only the zones available on the current monitor. FancyZones. Wallpapers for each screen, including the ability to span a single image across every display. It's not on the same level as DisplayFusion at all, but Dual Monitor Tools is still a good program to have if you use multiple screens. Dual Monitor Tools 3 PowerToys Make your mouse more efficient with multiple screens Microsoft's PowerToys includes a suite of tools that help you be more productive in many different ways, and there are two in particular that make a lot of sense for multi-monitor users. Firest off, we have mouse utilities, which are all about making it easier to use your mouse on large screens or setups that have a lot of monitors. There are a few tools in this subset, but one that makes a lot of sense is called Mouse Jump. With mouse Jump, you can press a hotkey of your choice to bring up a miniaturized view of all your screens, which shows up wherever your cursor is. In this view, you can simply click where you want your mouse to go, and it will instantly jump to that location. This makes it much faster to move your mouse to a different screen so you can work much more quickly without having to move your mouse across a large screen. There are other mouse utilities that can be useful, though, including the mouse highlighter, which can help find your mouse. It's pretty useful if you have a lot of large screens and can't find your cursor. Mouse crosshairs do something similar, but in a more subdued way that's shown on screen at all times. Related The ultimate guide to using PowerToys Windows may not be perfect, but Microsoft gives you the tools to make the experience better with PowerToys. Here's everything you need to know. Easily juggle multiple windows There's more to PowerToys than Mouse utilities though, and the other big one is FancyZones, which I've sung the praises of many times in the past. I mostly use FancyZones to help with managing single large screen, but it's fantastic for multiple screens, too. FancyZones allows you
