Measured throughput testingEkahau Site Survey 8.0 brought in a new feature called active throughput testing and Ekahau AI Pro continues to support this feature. This feature allows you to measure the actual data throughput that your network is capable of.In order to measure the throughput, Ekahau AI Pro requires another computer (hereafter referred to as server) with which to communicate. The server must run an iPerf2, iPerf3 or iperf3-ekahau (recommended) process in server mode.Ekahau AI Pro (since version 11.1.2) no longer includes the ePerf application in its installation, but you either find needed application in older version of the application or through this download link.The server should ideally be connected to a high speed wired network with fast routing to the tested Wi-Fi network. This is in order to eliminate the server from being the bottleneck for the throughput test. In order to communicate with the server, Ekahau AI Pro also requires that you have a Wi-Fi adapter associated to the tested network.Ekahau AI Pro will always bind the test to a specific network interface's association (Can be selected under adapter configuration). Make sure that roaming between that specific associated network and the server works. Ekahau AI Pro will never use wired connection for testing throughput.Please refer to the Active Throughput Surveys manual for closer details on determining the parameters that best suit your testing needs.What is ePerf anyways?This is Ekahau's streamlined version of iperf3 throughput testing server. Built from scratch on the Java programming language. This is a simplified version of the official open source iperf3 server which supports only a bare minimum feature set needed for Ekahau AI Pro throughput tests. It was implemented because the official version's stability was insufficient for unreliable roaming Wi-Fi networks and additionally it also contained unnecessary functionality for the application's purposes.Running ePerf on Ekahau AI ProMost of the extra options of regular iPerf3 have been removed from Ekahau version and Ekahau ePerf uses only one optional argument: the port on which to listen for connections. When this engine is enabled, AI Pro models simulated reflection and diffraction caused by various wall materials.
