Winter festivals, Christmas markets and holiday villages can be found in every borough of New York City, featuring products and foods from various businesses and booths around the city.Although the Bryant Park Winter Village and the Union Square Christmas Market are the most well-known winter villages in New York City, there are holiday villages throughout the city–including the one in the Oculus.Local artists and stores across the five boroughs sell some one-of-a-kind items. I always include at least one present from a holiday village stall in my Christmas giving. And the later in the day you venture into Rockefeller Center, the more and more people you’ll find. 2. Meet Santa at Macy’s SantalandThe REAL Santa is said to be sitting in Santaland at Macy’s in Herald Square. Step onto the top floor of the 34th Street department store to be transported to Santaland. While the tradition of the real St. Nick visiting Macy’s dates back to the 1860s, Santa has had a permanent home on the 8th floor since the mid-1970s. You’ll wind your way through interactive exhibits before boarding the Santaland Express train, which will take you directly to Santa. The building that stands there today was a U.S. Customs House.32. Take a festive-filled day trip outside the city to the American DreamOver in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the American Dream is a huge shopping mall with over 300 stores, restaurants, an aquarium, an indoor ice skating rink, and even an indoor amusement and water park. This post is all about the perfect Christmas In New York Itinerary to help you make the most of your magical trip!If you’re anything like me, you’ve spent your whole life dreaming of visiting New York City at Christmas time. From the iconic Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree to the beautiful lights and holiday markets, nothing else could compare.Fortunately, I spent months curating the perfect 5-day itinerary to ensure YOU can experience the most magical trip to NYC during the Holiday Season. Having taken this trip myself in December 2023, I can assure you it’s an experience you’ll never forget.Now let’s get this New York City trip underway! As always, thank you for the support!What Is The Best Time To Visit New York City?I recommend that you take this trip from Sunday to Thursday around the beginning of December. While this itinerary can be adapted for any winter timeframe, I personally found this particular week to be PERFECT!You may not get to experience snow, but you’re also verrryyyy likely to avoid the rain, which feels like a fair trade-off given the many outdoor activities and extensive walking. I think Sunday to Thursday are the best choice of days as you’ll be able to avoid the peak hotel and activity costs AND avoid the intense weekend crowds typically seen on Friday and Saturday nights. If your dream is to experience a white Christmas in New York City, I’d recommend visiting in late December or early January for the best chance!Where To Stay In NYC In DecemberI highly recommend staying in Manhattan. It will heavily reduce travel time and place you right by all of the Christmas-y Activities! We stayed at The DoubleTree by Hilton New York Midtown Fifth Ave, and I can’t recommend it enough. Located in the heart of New York City, our room offered a stunning view of the Rockefeller Christmas Tree right outside the window. The room was spacious, modern, and clean—no easy feat in the city, especially at such a great price point and fabulous location. I also have to add that the staff were exceptional, making our stay truly worthwhile.This location is incredibly walkable to all the excursions featured in the itinerary, as well as to several fantastic restaurants and bars. Plus, there’s a subway stop on the same street, making it easy to commute to all corners of the city.What To Pack For New York In December?As a girly from California, I really had to do some preparations for this trip. I seriously didn’t even OWN a heavy jacket.
