A little while ago I was having intermittent battery problems that seemed to coincide with water leaking into the battery well -- see As part of that I took the battery into an auto parts store and they tested it and said it was good.But now the battery won't seem to hold a charge at all. Over the weekend I jumped it because it was too low to charge after sitting for a while. After driving it around for 30 mins the voltage (measured at the front jump point) was just over 12 V. I left it overnight and made sure all lights etc were off. The next day by mid-morning it was down to 8 V. Today I charged it up with a Noco Genius, and it's now at 12.6 V. We'll see where it is tomorrow but I'm pretty sure it won't hold it.Anyway, my problems sound awfully similar to this old thread: that case the poster found that his ground connection to the car body was loose. I will check mine tomorrow, but I don't think that's the case, as I reinstalled the battery myself not that long ago after the shop tested it, and I'm pretty sure the connection was tight.But that does indicate that this kind of constant drain can happen and doesn't necessarily indicate a bad battery. Anything else I should do to troubleshoot if that ground wire isn't the problem?Thanks!PS One more odd thing: when I charged it today, after a few hrs of charging, the Noco indicated it was almost at 100%. And then when I came back after another couple hours, it said it was at 25%!. But after disconnecting, it was at 12.6 V. Not sure what's up with that, or if it indicates a problem with the battery or the charger. Please let me know if that means anything to you. Get it tested with an electronic load tester. A lot of automotive retailers have such a tester and will test for free; it’s good for business. Dealerships for sure have such testers, but will more’n likely charge. Or DIY with something like Solar BA9. As a rule, if Cold Cranking Amps has dropped below spec (just a touch over 300) it’s time to replace. Load on the psu. You really need to measure the voltages when the paper clip is inserted regardless of the fan spinning.However the paper clip test cannot prove a psu is working. It can only show if a psu is probably dead. Just because a psu works with the paper clip does not mean it will work when in a pc as the paper clip test does not prove the psu can deliver the correct voltages under operating loads. If the psu is completely unresponsive when you perform the paper clip you can assume the psu is dead. So the paper clip test is of very limited usefulness. You should check out USB testers like Fnirsi FNB48, AVHzY CT3 (Shizuku, KT002). These USB Test types have many functions, can test charging protocol (QC 2, QC3, PD, AFC, FCP, PPS...), trigger Volt and current, check ripple noise, cable resistance, check battery capacity, run LUA script... Not that I don't like chinese stuff, but most of these atorch/ruiden/etc is a "single day" device, meaning it was made (all presumably by avhzy) with some very raw software, not even closely well thought or well work tested and left that way with no support or software/firmware updates. I've tried many of those and lord, I'd pay 100-300 usd for a really normal device like West Mountain Radio CBA Electronic Load instead of Atorch whatever electronic load.CBA does not have any kind of display, but it works like a horse with normal software, it's stable and highly useable for repeated tasks.While almost every usb tester made these days has many whistles and blows but lacks normal straight forward idea for what's it is made for (along with software).Sorry for ranting, struggling with this particular piece of equipment...
