The reason there are two *.sdr folders for every book is because one is created by Calibre when the book is sideloaded onto the Kindle, and the second is created by the Kindle when the book is opened. Prior to sometime late '17 / early '18, Kindle would use the *.sdr folder created by Calibre, even though it was buried in the folder hierarchy. A change in the Kindle OS has blinded Kindle to the existence of the Calibre-created *.sdr folder, so it creates another when the book is opened. This makes the Calibre-created *.sdr folder superfluous, and it can be deleted at any time. Not sure why Calibre continues to create a folder that will not be used? The above statements are my belief, based on experience and small indications such as file creation dates, etc. They are not fact, based on actual knowledge of Calibre and Kindle OS. Hopefully you've solved your problem by now but for others who come after: The link OP shared was to a Zip file that contains two plugins for Calibre: Obok for Kobo books and DeDRM for Kindle and Adobe DE. Once you have Calibre, you can follow the instructions in the DeDRM_plugin_ReadMe.txt in the DeDRM_tools folder to install the plugin (it's WAY simpler than it used to be back on Calibre 5!!). Once it's installed, locate the books you want to transfer and drag them into Calibre. Then connect your Kindle (it takes a bit on my machine for the Kindle to show up in Calibre), choose your book, and choose Send to Device. It may ask if you want to auto-convert the file; say yes if so. I let kindle for pc update itself, then downloaded one ebook from the ones i bought on the windows app. Then i picked up the file and transferred it to calibre. It showed as kfx-zip. I have the latest alpha nodrm plugin 10.0.9. I run calibre 7.16.0 on windows 11. I also have kfx input 2.7. I don't know if you have the same issue, the update was made in the last hours. If you’ve ever bought an ebook from Amazon, you’ve likely heard that it comes with Amazon’s proprietary DRM that locks it into the Kindle platform (for more info about DRM see The eBook DRM Guide). The only way to read Amazon’s ebooks on a non-Kindle device or app is to remove the DRM. This may sound difficult at first, but it’s actually a surprisingly simple process.Basically all that you have to do to remove DRM from Kindle ebooks is install the Kindle for PC program on your computer, along with a free program called Calibre that is an extraordinarily useful tool for managing your ebook library, and a DRM-stripping plugin for Calibre that takes all of about 10 seconds to install. Once that’s all setup all you have to do is import your Kindle ebooks into Calibre and the plugin will remove the DRM automatically. You can then use Calibre to convert the ebooks into other formats, such to ePub, to read on any non-Kindle ebook reader or reading app.Note that this guide is for Kindle ebooks only. Refer to this second tutorial for directions on how to remove Adobe DRM from ePub and PDF ebooks.Disclaimer: Removing DRM is a highly-controversial subject, and is considered illegal in some countries, including the US and Canada. Kindle PW2, Kindle Voyage, Kindle DXG, Boox M90, Kobo Aura HD I sideload all of my books from calibre via USB. This includes ebooks purchased from Amazon. I like having all of my ebooks stored in one central location, and not having to turn the wi-fi on on my Kindle (which then I often forget to turn off). 04-22-2014, 03:41 PM #5 eBook Junkie Posts: 1,526 Karma: 1464018 Join Date: May 2010 Location: USA Device: Kindle Fire 2020, Kindle PW2 Quote: Originally Posted by pidgeon92 I sideload all of my books from calibre via USB. I feel the same way but I was wondering if I was missing something by not using the send to kindle app. I guess the biggest dealbreaker for me is Amazon putting them in as personal docs instead of books. I prefer having all my books as books on all my devices. Since I read on both my fire and pw, I do not want to be jumping back and forth between the docs and books section on the Fire.A small thing I know but with dropbox I don't have to worry about that. 04-22-2014, 06:33 PM #6 Wizard Posts: 1,817 Karma: 23400001 Join Date: May 2012 Location: USA Device: K1/K3/BasicK Voyage/Oasis1/Oasis3 I side load with send to kindle. Right from calibre in the book folders. I like having it all in the cloud basically so I can pull it on my kindles whenever I want or need it. I have covers though on my docs, but it does say personal docs on my PW. I can't recall off hand now what it says on my basic kindle. My main thing is having it all in one place. And I rarely plug in my kindles through USB. I think only times I do it is when I manually update them. But its whatever one prefers. 04-22-2014, 06:46 PM #7 Wizard Posts: 1,834 Karma: 4985051 Join Date: Sep 2010 Location: Maryland Device: Kindle Quote: Originally Posted by Atunah I side load with send to kindle.
