Defeating the Houston Astros in five games, the Atlanta Braves claimed their second World Series title in 2021— a moment team members and hundreds of thousands of fans celebrated. Prepping for celebrations, county government officials in Cobb County, Georgia, turned to geographic information system (GIS) technology. Before the 2017 opening of the home of the Atlanta Braves, Truist Park, Cobb County officials had invested in advanced traffic management technology to move fans efficiently to and from the ballpark near the intersection of two interstate highways. Leveraging these technologies and GIS, county staff collaborated with the Cobb County Police Department to create up-to-date maps of the area and remotely control traffic lights. Over the years, both entities have applied GIS maps and data for crowd control, security, and traffic management of major events."We have 50 different datasets on the map, from the footprint of the stadium, all the businesses, the lights and cameras, the traffic data feed, 911 calls, traffic from Uber and Lyft rideshare, and the location of Cobb County vehicles," said Jennifer Lana, GIS manager at Cobb County Government. MLB staff and Cobb County public safety team, applied ArcGIS Mission to monitor crowd safety and traffic conditions during the 2021 world series game. So Cobb County officials held off on planning a parade route or celebration. After the Braves' final win, Cobb County command center staff only had 35 hours to organize a celebration party for more than 350,000 guests and create an approved route for the parade procession. Moreover, the command center and officers on the ground would need real-time operational intelligence to manage the parade security.Historically, Cobb County Police ensured safety by visualizing the location and condition of every traffic light and camera around the ballpark, including 70 live feed cameras over critical intersections, pathways, and the entertainment district. 2025-04-05HOUSTON (AP) — Teoscar Hernández hit his 22nd home run, River Ryan struck out eight in his first major league win and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Houston Astros 6-2 on Sunday.Gavin Lux and James Outman also homered and Shohei Ohtani stole his career-high 27th base for the Dodgers, who came into the game with a 1-7 road record in July.“That was a good win top to bottom,” Lux said. “To take one from a really good team, obviously avoid the sweep, have some momentum going into the off day. I think we all wanted that one pretty bad.” With the Dodgers clinging to a 3-2 lead in the eighth, Hernández turned on a slider from Bryan King and sent it 361 feet into the left field seats. Cavan Biggio extended the Dodgers lead with an RBI single to center, scoring Lux, who had walked, to make it 5-2.Jason Heyward tacked on another run with an RBI sacrifice fly in the ninth, scoring Ohtani. “We need every bit of it,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. ”Up and down the lineup we got production. That was a good thing.” After the first inning, Ryan (1-0) struck out six of the next 10 batters he faced through the fourth. The rookie did not surrender a hit until Jon Singleton doubled off the right field bullpen fence to lead off the sixth inning.Ryan retired the next two batters on flyballs to center field but had reached his 91st pitch, so Roberts decided
